Converting Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) to WebP Image Format (WebP) involves a transformation between two specialized encoding specifications. GIF provides frame-by-frame timed animation with 1-bit transparency and an indexed 256-color palette, compressed using patent-free LZW encoding.
WebP combines lossy predictive coding from the VP8 video codec with lossless arithmetic LZ77 compression. It supports 8-bit alpha transparency and animation in a unified compact container.
