About HEIC to PNG Conversion
Understanding HEIC vs JPG: When to Convert
HEIC has real advantages, so conversion isn't always necessary: Keep HEIC when: You're storing photos on Apple devices, you want the smallest file size, you need depth data for Portrait mode effects, or you're editing in Apple Photos or Adobe Lightroom (which support HEIC natively). Convert to JPG when: You're sharing with Windows users, uploading to websites that reject HEIC, printing through services that don't support it, attaching to emails for non-Apple recipients, or archiving to ensure future compatibility. Quality considerations: HEIC to JPG conversion is technically "lossy" — JPG doesn't preserve 100% of HEIC data. However, at high quality settings (which MixConvert uses by default), the difference is imperceptible to human vision. Color accuracy, sharpness, and detail are all preserved. File size: JPG files are typically 1.5-2x larger than equivalent HEIC files. A 3MB HEIC might become a 5-6MB JPG. This is the tradeoff for universal compatibility. Metadata: MixConvert preserves EXIF metadata (date taken, camera info, GPS location if present). Your photos retain their organizational data after conversion.
How to Convert HEIC to PNG
- Open MixConvert's HEIC to JPG converter in your browser. Works the same on iPhone, Android, or desktop.
- Tap "Select Files" or drag and drop your HEIC photos. On iPhone, you'll be able to select from your Camera Roll.
- Select multiple HEIC files for batch conversion. There's no limit — select 10 or 1,000 photos.
- Wait for processing. Each photo is decoded and re-encoded locally. You'll see progress for each file.
- Download individual JPGs or use "Download All (ZIP)" to get all converted photos in one archive.
- Verify quality by opening a few JPGs. They should look identical to the originals — full resolution, correct colors.
- Share your JPGs wherever needed — email, websites, printing services, Windows PCs. They'll work everywhere.
- Optional: Delete the original HEIC files if you no longer need them, or keep both versions.

Troubleshooting Common Issues
⚠️ Photos look darker after conversion
Some HEIC files use HDR data that doesn't translate perfectly to JPG. The photos are usually correct — the difference is in display. Compare on the same screen.
⚠️ File sizes are much larger after conversion
This is normal. HEIC is more efficient compression. JPG files are typically 1.5-2x larger. Consider using PNG if you want lossless conversion (though files will be even larger).
⚠️ Some photos failed to convert
Very rarely, corrupted HEIC files won't decode. Try opening the original on your iPhone — if it displays there, try converting again. If it doesn't display, the source file is damaged.
⚠️ My old iPhone photos are already JPG
Pre-iOS 11 iPhones captured in JPG. Also, some camera settings can force JPG capture. Check the file extension — if it's already .jpg, no conversion is needed.
⚠️ Live Photos just become still images
JPG is a still image format. Live Photo motion data can't be preserved. If you need the video portion, export the Live Photo as video first.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I convert HEIC to JPG on my iPhone?
Yes! Open MixConvert in Safari on your iPhone, tap to select HEIC photos from your Camera Roll, and download the converted JPGs. No app installation required — it works entirely in your browser. The processing happens on your device, so your photos stay private.
Will I lose photo quality?
Barely perceptibly. MixConvert converts at high quality settings where the difference is invisible to normal viewing. Side-by-side, you won't be able to tell which is HEIC and which is JPG. Colors, sharpness, and details are fully preserved.
How many HEIC files can I convert at once?
As many as your device can handle. There's no limit on our end — select dozens or hundreds of photos. Modern iPhones can handle 50-100+ photos at once. Desktop computers with more RAM can process several hundred simultaneously.
Do my photos get uploaded anywhere?
No. All processing happens locally in your browser. You can verify this by opening Developer Tools (settings icon in Safari > Web Inspector on iPhone, or F12 on desktop) and watching the Network tab — you'll see zero file uploads during conversion.
Why does my iPhone save photos as HEIC?
Apple made HEIC the default in iOS 11 because it's more efficient — same quality at half the file size. This saves storage space on your device. You can change this in Settings > Camera > Formats to "Most Compatible" if you prefer native JPG capture.
What about HEIF files?
HEIF and HEIC are related. HEIC is specifically the container format Apple uses for HEIF images with HEVC compression. MixConvert handles both. If you see .heif or .heic files, the same converter works for both.
💡 Pro Tips
- •On iPhone, go to Settings > Camera > Formats and choose "Most Compatible" to capture in JPG natively if you frequently share photos with non-Apple users.
- •When batch converting a large number of photos, close other browser tabs to free up memory. Hundreds of high-resolution images require significant RAM.
- •For photos you'll only share once, consider using iPhone's built-in share feature which can automatically convert to JPG when sending via email or message.
- •Keep HEIC originals in iCloud/device storage for best quality, and only convert copies when needed for specific sharing purposes.
- •If you regularly need to convert, bookmark MixConvert on your iPhone's home screen for quick access — Safari allows adding web pages as app icons.
